ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) sockets allow ICs and other leaded devices to be inserted and removed from a circuit easily and without damage.
- Qty 1 – ZIF Socket, 40-Pin, 0.6″ Wide
KEY FEATURES OF ZIF SOCKET, 40-PIN, 0.6″ WIDE:
- Fits up to 40-pin DIP ICs or other components with 0.6″ width
- Bottom pins are 0.6″ in width and will fit a standard 0.6″ wide socket
- Breadboard compatible.
ZIF sockets are commonly used for IC programmers or test fixtures where you want to put ICs into a circuit temporarily. They are like a normal socket except that they are spring loaded and tightened with a lever so there is no chance of damage to the IC.
Besides ICs, these sockets can also be used to grab onto male headers of modules, pins of 7-segment LED arrays and similar devices.
Simple permanent test and programming fixtures can be made using a universal prototype PCB with one of these sockets mounted along with the peripheral resistors or other components required to complete the circuit. Temporary fixtures can be constructed on solderless breadboards.
