We often get customer requests for providing low profile versions of our modified Teensy products. In response, we have launched new low profile versions of all of the Teensy 4.1 variations that we sell along with the basic Teensy 4.0.
This low profile option puts the highest point of the Teensy (top of the USB connector) at 10.6mm above the baseboard. This saves about 5mm (0.19″) in height over using the standard header configuration.
It is important to note that they low profile pins are too short to be used in a solderless breadboard. They are meant for use in a custom PCB or solder type proto board in which the supplied female header sockets are soldered.
Standard Teensy 4.1 with Low Profile Pins
The options available include the standard Teensy 4.1 with just low profile pins installed and is shipped along with the mating female header sockets
Standard Teensy 4.0 with Low Profile Pins
The standard Teensy 4.0 is also available with just low profile pins installed and is shipped along with the mating female header sockets
Teensy 4.1 Fully Loaded with Low Profile Pins and additional Memory
We also have our popular Teensy 4.1 Fully Loaded products that include additional PSRAM and Flash memory options in various configurations. With the low profile headers, we do not install the Ethernet header as that would be counter productive to achieving a low installed height, but it can be added at customer request.
Teensy 4.1 Fully Loaded for Prototyping System with Low Profile Pins, Additional Memory and Access to Bottom Mounted I/O
We also have a low profile version of our Teensy 4.1 Fully Loaded for Prototyping System products. These bring all the Teensy I/O down from the bottom of the module and so include not only the mating 1×24 low profile female header sockets, but also the two 5-pin header sockets to pick up the USB Host and VBAT/PROG/ON-OFF headers, a 2-in header socket to connect the VUSB power header pin and a 2×3 2mm male header with the correct height to mate with the female header socket on the bottom of the Teensy 4.1. This version also has the VUSB/VIN trace cut and a 1A Schottky diode installed to prevent back current flow to the USB connection.
As with our standard products, the customer can request modifications to the basic configurations such as leaving the VBAT/PROG/ON-OFF header off, etc.
