Description
This wire was originally designed for wire wrapping, but it is more commonly used these days to modify PCBs or build circuits on proto PCBs by using it to solder wire jumpers point-to-point.
PACKAGE INCLUDES:
- 230M / 750ft roll Wire Wrapping Wire, Green
KEY FEATURES OF WIRE WRAPPING WIRE:
- 30 AWG
- Tin plated solid copper conductor
- Green PVC insulation
- 230M / 750 feet
The tin-plated copper conductor solders well.
The insulation does pull back a small amount when soldering, but in our testing it was not enough to cause any issues. The picture taken here is with the solder iron held on the joint long enough that the insulation had retracted about as far back as it was going to go.
The 30 AWG wire size is fine for signals and to supply power to a typical IC, but should not be used for power runs over about 500mA.
The ‘gold standard’ for wire wrapping wire uses Kynar (PVDF) insulation which is stronger and more heat resistant than PVC, but also much more expensive. If you need the best, stick with Kynar insulation. If you need ‘good enough’, this wire will work fine for most applications and will be a life-time supply at a fair price.
Notes:
- The roll may not be continuous i. e. here may be several separate pieces on the roll.
