The SRF-40 style strain relief bushing is used to strain relief flat power cables as they pass through the wall of an enclosure and provide protection from sharp edges or if the cable is pulled.
The strain relief bushing can be simply mounted into a round hole 9/16″ in diameter in panels up to 1/8″ thick.
The bushing can pass a flat lamp style AC cord (SPT-2 or HPN) of 18 AWG or 16 AWG with 2 or 3 conductors which can be handy for project boxes that require an AC input. It can handle cable dimensions from 3 x 7.6mm (0.12 x 0.3″) up to 4.1 x 10.4mm (0.16 x 0.41″)
The strain relief forces an S-bend in the cable to hold it secure. Once it is pressed into the hole in the enclosure, the spring action of the bushing against the power cable insulation keeps the strain relief in place. A pair of pliers is usually needed to compress the strain relief onto the cable while it is being inserted into the enclosure.
