Description
This panel meter is a 0-30V 3-wire voltmeter with a 3-digit 0.56″ blue display with floating decimal point.
PACKAGE INCLUDES:
- Panel Meter 0-30V 3-Wire 0.56″ Blue
- 3-wire pig-tail connector
KEY FEATURES OF PANEL METER 0-30V 3-WIRE 0.56″ BLUE:
- 0-30V DC voltage measurement range with floating decimal point
- Blue 0.56″ 3-digit 7-segment displays
- 3.3 to 30V operating voltage
- ± 1 digit accuracy typical
These modules work well for monitoring voltage in applications such as vehicles, solar cells or they can be used as readouts in home brew power supplies or as bench-top voltmeter.
Display
The module has a 3-digit display consisting of 0.56″ blue 7-segment displays which provide for a nice large easily read display.
The decimal point will sift depending on the voltage being displayed with 2 digits being displayed to the right of the decimal point for voltages < 10V and 1 digit for voltages >= 10V.
Connections
The meter comes with a pig-tail wiring harnesses that plugs into the connector on the back of the module.
1×3 Wire Harness
The 3-wire small gauge harness is used to supply power to the module and to provide the voltage input for measurement.
- Red Wire = Panel meter power. Connect to 3.3V to 30VDC. The display will dim slightly when operated under 4V.
- Black Wire = Panel meter ground
- White/Blue Wire = Connect to voltage to be monitored
When wiring the module in, there are two basic connection schemes depending on if you want to power the meter from the same power source that you are monitoring or if you are using a separate power supply as outlined below.
If the power supply being monitored is between 3.3 to 30V, the meter can be powered off the supply that is being monitored. The panel meter draws about 8mA which needs to be taken into consideration if powering off a high impedance supply.
If monitoring a voltage that can go under 3.3V or to minimize the load being placed on the voltage that is being monitored, it is necessary to power the meter from a separate power supply. The power supplies must have a common ground.
Voltage Measurement
The voltage sense wire for the voltage measurement is the wire that is not red or black. It may be a white or blue wire. This input has a high impedance of about 100K Ohm, so will only draw about 5uA at 5V which makes it suitable for using as a DVM for measuring voltages in circuit.
Accuracy of the voltage reading is typically ±1 digit (1%) for voltages over 4V. For voltages < 4V, the accuracy starts to decrease with a worst case of ± 5% as you approach 0 volts.
Our Evaluation Results:
We find these modules to be very accurate for the type of applications they are typically used in and they hold their accuracy over most of their measurement range well.
