Description
Simple but useful device that provides LED light from a standard USB port.
PACKAGE INCLUDES:
- Qty 2 – Mini USB LED Light Module
KEY FEATURES OF MINI USB LED LIGHT MODULE:
- 3 SMD white LEDs
- Pure white light
- Built-in current limiting to 60mA
- 5V operation
The module can be plugged into a standard USB Type-A port like with a USB extension cable where it pulls 5V power from the port and lights the LEDs. It can be plugged into a USB port on a battery to provide a small portable light or in something like an unused USB port of a phone charger to provide a night light or for similar applications.
The device includes a 39 ohm current limiting resistor which limits the total current draw to 60mA @ 5V with the LEDs in parallel, so each LED pulls approximately 20mA. This keeps the LEDs within safe operating characteristics.
A 5V source can also be soldered to the two power leads to add a small light source to a project. The 60mA drive requirement is too high to drive directly with an output pin on an MCU, but a transistor can be added to increase the drive capability so that the light could be controlled on/off. The LEDs will light over over the range of 3.3V to 5V, but will be at reduced brightness at lower voltages.
BEFORE THEY ARE SHIPPED, THESE MODULES ARE:
- Packaged in a resealable ESD bag for protection and easy storage.
Notes:
- None
