KEY FEATURES OF HEADER STACKABLE 1X40:

• 1×40 Female header with standard 2.54mm (0.1″) spacing

• 12mm long 0.64 x 0.60mm male pins for stacking into another female header

The male pins are designed to be soldered into a PCB with the pins extending through the PCB for mating with another female header below it.

The female header side mates with standard length male headers that are approximately 6mm long.  The female side overall height is 11mm tall which is taller than the standard 8mm female headers and provides more clearance for top-side components.

These are commonly used for making Arduino Shields or other applications where it is desired to allow 2 or more PCBs to be stacked on top of each other with these connectors providing vertical electrical connections and physical support between the boards.

Compared to the smaller flat-blade style stackable headers we sell and that are commonly available for sale elsewhere, these long 40-pin strips are of a more robust construction with pins that are almost square (0.64mm x 0.60mm) which will provide better long-term contact.  The headers can also be snapped fairly cleanly with pliers, especially if scored with a box knife first rather than having to cut with diagonal pliers or a Dremel wheel.  One pin will still be exposed and thus lost in the cutting process.

When soldering these connectors onto a board, it is sometimes easiest if you insert the female connectors into male headers stuck into a solderless breadboard in order to hold the connectors aligned during the soldering process.

Notes: 

• These strips can be cut into shorter lengths if needed by snapping with a pair of pliers or using diagonal cutters or Dremel wheel, but at least one pin will be lost in the process.
• The housing is 11mm tall.  Most smaller versions of stackable headers are 8mm tall so take that into consideration if mixing connector types.
