Description
This compact module accepts USB Mini-B connector and provides 5V and 3.3V output as well as access to the USB data lines. It will also accept a DC power jack input.
PACKAGE INCLUDES:
- CJMCU Mini USB Power Module
- 1 x 6 male header
KEY FEATURES OF CJMCU MINI USB POWER MODULE:
- Accepts 5V input via Mini-B USB jack
- Accepts 5-12V input via standard DC power jack
- Output 1: +3.3V at up to 500mA
- Output 2: 5V USB or voltage on DC power jack
- Power on LED Indicator
This module is mainly designed to supply 5V and 3.3V power to a circuit using a mini USB cable. The 5V from the USB is used to power an AMS1117-3.3V regulator and both the 5V USB power and 3.3V from the regulator are available on the output pins. The total maximum power that can be drawn is about 500mA and limited by the USB.
The module also breaks out the three data pins of the USB connector (+D, -D and ID) so that they can be tapped into if desired.
Besides the USB connector, the module also will accept a standard DC power plug which can be used to provide power. In this case, 5-12V is input on the DC power jack and the same voltage is available on the 5V output pin. It is also passed to the 3.3V regulator which provides a 3.3V output. In this mode, the maximum power available on the 3.3V pin will depend on the input voltage. With an input of 5V, it can support approximately 500mA. with an input of 12V, it will be limited to about 150mA due to increased thermal load on the regulator from the increased voltage drop.
If using the DC power jack, a 5V input generally works the best since it provides 5V on the 5V output, minimizes heating of the 3.3V regulator and it is also less likely to cause damage if both the USB and DC jack are accidentally inserted at the same time.
Note: Do not connect an active USB cable and DC power jack at the same time as the USB 5V and DC power jack input voltage will be shorted together. Also keep in mind that if you are using the module with something other than a 5V input, the voltage on the 5V output pin will be whatever the input voltage is.
Module Connections
The module has a 6-pin header location. A 6-pin male header is provided which can be soldered to the top or bottom of the board depending on planned usage or wires can be attached.
1 x 6 Header
- GND = Ground
- ID = USB ID
- D+ = USB Data+
- D- = USB Data-
- +5V = USB 5V output or voltage on DC power jack
- 3V3 = 3.3V output of on-board regulator
BEFORE THEY ARE SHIPPED, THESE MODULES ARE:
- Sample inspected and tested per incoming shipment
Notes:
- Under high current loads, the components can get fairly hot to the touch.
