These are new old stock of high quality Alcoswitch 16-position (Hex) right angle rotary switches that output a 4-bit binary code.
- 16-Position Right Angle Rotary Switch
KEY FEATURES OF 16-POSITION RIGHT ANGLE ROTARY SWITCH:
- 16-Position with hexadecimal (0-F) readout
- 20V @ 400mA contact rating
- Gold contacts
The switch has 6 PCB pins. 2 of the pins (center pin in each row) are common pins that are tied together internally and usually are either connected to ground or to Vcc through a pull-up resistor depending on if you want to use active high or active low logic.
When the switch is rotated, the value is presented in a binary format on the other 4 switch pins that can easily be read using 4 pins on a uC.
The table below shows the truth table. ‘C’ indicates the Common pins. As way of example, if the switch is rotated to ‘1’, the 1 pin will be connected to the common pins. If it is rotated to ‘3’, both the 1 and 2 pins will be connected to the common pins.
Our Evaluation Results:
These are very nice quality switches.
They are handy for providing a way to select a device address or to set an operational mode. Being right angle, they can be accessed through a hole in the side of an enclosure to allow them to be set without opening the enclosure.
Though the pins are on standard 2.54mm (0.1″) centers, they are not solderless breadboard friendly unless the pins are extended. They will fit solder type breadboards.
